The convertible variant of the 488 Pista was unveiled at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The Spider retains the same engine as the coupé generating the same power output, hence resulting in the same performance as its fixed roof counterpart according to Ferrari. However, it has a reduced weight of 1,380 kg (3,042 lb) making it the first production road-going convertible Ferrari to be lighter than its coupé counterpart.

The interior is trimmed in carbon fibre, upholstered in Alcantara and leather and contains straps to shut the doors instead of actual door handles, thus indicating the car's track-focused nature.

Exterior highlights include new 20-inch diamond finished alloy wheels which are 20% lighter than forged alloy wheels, along with 20-inch carbon fibre wheels available as an option.

The 488 Pista Spider also marks the debut of the Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer, a new lateral dynamics control which makes "on-the-limit driving more intuitive, controllable and predictable”, according to the manufacturer. 

This particular 2019 example is finished in striking Giallo Triplo Strato, complemented by Blu Nart racing livery and an extensive suite of optional Blu carbon fibre components. Inside, Blu Medio Alcantara and Giallo contrast detailing creates a purposeful yet luxurious environment, enhanced by factory‑specified carbon fibre racing seats and bespoke special‑order elements.
